Meet the runner: Sarah

  • Fundraising

I’m Sarah, Executive Assistant to CEO & Board of Trustees at Certitude, providing PA support to Aisling (CEO) and Scott (Chair)

Why did you decide to run the London Marathon? All the way back in April 2010 I ran the inaugural Brighton Marathon and because it was such an amazing experience, I signed up for more the following year. However, I lacked the motivation to train, didn’t do anywhere near enough, and my second attempt was abysmal – I think I cried for about 24 of the 26 miles! So now, 11 years on, my motivation is back, and I have a fantastic opportunity to end my marathon running days on a high.

Why did you choose Certitude as your organisation of choice? I’ve always, always wanted to run the London Marathon as it’s such an iconic event, and to be able to fundraise for Certitude, where I’ve loved working for the past 14 years makes it even more awesome!”

How has your training been going? Any tips for other runners? Training has been really tough as an October marathon means training through the summer, and this year’s heatwave. Lots of early starts to try and beat the heat and progress is a bit slower than hoped. I’m getting there though!

What’s been the hardest moment in your training so far and how did you overcome it? Battling the heat as I hate the hot weather at the best of times and those who know me well will tell you that I’m much happier in winter, wrapped up in a cosy jumper! I’ve also had ‘runner’s knee’ but one of the other Certitude runners recommended kinesiology tape – I was sceptical at first but it’s truly amazing!
