This week saw the first ever Multiple Disadvantage Day take place where the 12 Fulfilling Lives projects across England held a series of coordinated events. The events were designed to highlight the full stories of people facing multiple disadvantage, which have led them to face marginalisation within society.
The main message of the events was to #seethefullpicture and to encourage everyone to reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with multiple disadvantage.
Fulfilling Lives Lambeth, Southwark & Lewisham held a stall at Downham Health and Leisure Centre where we had the opportunity to speak with 80 members of the public helping them to find out more about the challenges people living with multiple needs face.
The campaign’s key message and hashtag #seethefullpicture was even trending on Twitter, and the dedicated website also received 5 times the amount of views it has had on an average day.
The focus of the event was to reduce stigma, by increasing awareness and understanding of multiple disadvantage amongst the general public, providing a greater understanding of the impact of stigma and discrimination across society.
The Fulfilling Lives Lambeth, Southwark & Lewisham team displayed a coproduced booklet of creative work and poetry to demonstrate how we #seethefullpicture with the people we support across the three boroughs.
